NATIONAL GIRL SCOUT LEADER'S DAY: A massive shout-out to the mentors who volunteer their time to build "courage, confidence, and character" in the next generation. They teach leadership, entrepreneurship, and—most importantly—the value of a Thin Mint!

1793 - President Washington attends the opening of the first circus in U.S.

1884 - Thomas Stevens leaves San Francisco on the first bicycle trip around the world. The trip takes him 2 years and 9 months to complete.
